Ebook About
“An all-night reading affair—you won’t be able to put it down. . . . [Angel Falls will] make you laugh and cry.”—New York PostWhen Mikaela Campbell, beloved wife and mother, falls into a coma, it is up to her husband, Liam, to hold the family together and care for their grieving, frightened children. Doctors tell Liam not to expect a recovery, but he believes that love can accomplish what medical science cannot. Daily he sits at Mikaela’s bedside, telling her stories of the precious life they have built together, hoping against hope that she will wake up. But then he discovers evidence of his wife’s secret past: a hidden first marriage to movie star Julian True.   Desperate to bring Mikaela back at any cost, Liam knows that he must turn to Julian for help. But will that choice cost Liam his wife, his family, and everything he holds dear? One of Kristin Hannah’s most moving novels, Angel Falls is a poignant and unforgettable portrait of marriage and commitment, of an ordinary man who dares to risk everything in the name of love.   Praise for Angel Falls   “A tearjerker . . . about the triumphs of family.”—Detroit Free Press    “A jewel . . . Hannah has executed her premise perfectly and plumbed its implications for every ounce of feeling.”San Jose Mercury News   “Hannah writes of love with compassion and conviction.”—Luanne Rice

Book Angel Falls: A Novel Review :

Ms. Hannah is an extremely prolific author. In the last several books she constantly describes things as velvet (velvet lake, voice, moon, skin, sky, day, blah, blah, blah).I find her overuse of this one word beyond annoying and a cop-out.In the first chapter, she already used the same description twice. Therefore, I requested a refund and Angels Falls was deleted. I felt velvety. : )I've pre-ordered her next book due out in February. The first time I encounter her overuse of the sameword, I'm going to request a refund. Her proofreader should be fired. Perhaps, I should be hired.I promise to have a more extensive vocabulary.Sorry, Ms. Hannah. Someone had to tell you.Otherwise, your stories are amazing.
I loved Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale, so I thought I'd try some of her earlier works. Angel Falls is the second of her earlier books that I've read, and let's just say her writing improved over time. Angel Falls was published in 2000, which is important to know since characters have beepers instead of cell phones (although I had a cell phone in 2000). The premise of the book is good - woman suffers head injury and is in a coma for weeks. Desperate husband seeks out her first husband to talk to her to try to get her to wake up. No spoilers here, but let's just say the plan didn't work as envisioned. There are several reasons I only gave this book 3 stars. First, I don't think Ms. Hannah has ever been around 9-year old boys. The 9-year old son in the story talked and acted more like he was 5 years old or younger. I understand him regressing due to the trauma of witnessing his mother's accident, but even before and after that he is portrayed much younger. Secondly, the son's name is Bret, but the other characters continuously called him "Bretster." I understand giving the kid a nickname, but it was just annoying to me. Finally, one of the reasons I loved The Nightingale was the strong female characters in the story. In Angel Falls, the women come across as weak, more like damsels in distress. The book was a fast read and held my interest, but is nowhere near as good as I had expected.
